Welcome to the Housing Department of the Native Village of Barrow. Our mission is to support low-income tribal members through various grant-funded programs designed to provide housing assistance. We focus on creating opportunities for our community to improve their housing conditions and overall quality of life.

You can pick up applications for housing assistance at the Native Village of Barrow main office, located at 6090 Boxer St. Or, you can download the application forms online. Once completed, you can drop off the forms at our office, email them , or fax them. NAHASDA Program

The NVB NAHASDA/Housing Department provides vital support to families and individuals in need of affordable housing. We focus on assisting those who face temporary challenges and strive to improve their housing conditions and socioeconomic status.

Through the NAHASDA program, we offer:

To date, we have successfully provided assistance for 13 new construction homes, completed 15 major renovations, and addressed numerous emergency repairs. Currently, we have 20 new construction homes awaiting development and 7 major renovations planned.

What We Do Housing Grants

The Housing Department provides assistance to low-income tribal members. Our services include a range of grant-funded programs aimed at improving housing access and quality. We work tirelessly to ensure that our tribal members have safe, sanitary, and affordable homes.

Indian Housing Block Grant
A $1,551,257 fund for activities:
  • New construction of homebuyer units
  • Rehabilitation of substandard homes
  • Homeless assistance
  • Housing services including first-month rent and security deposit assistance
  • Foreclosure prevention payments
  • Emergency repairs
  • Energy auditing, home inspections, land leases, and real property acquisition.
Native American Housing Rehabilitation Program Grant
A $30,000 grant for three $10K projects aimed at assisting eligible members with home renovations.
