Workforce Development & Childcare Services

The Workforce Development and Childcare Services Department of the Native Village of Barrow provides essential programs to promote education, career development, general assistance, and childcare support. Our services ensure tribal members have access to higher education, vocational training, and affordable childcare options, fostering personal and professional growth.

What We Offer

Applications for higher education, vocational training, general assistance, and childcare assistance and provider services are available at the Native Village of Barrow main office or can be downloaded online. Completed applications can be submitted in person, by email.

Higher Education Assistance
This program provides financial aid to eligible tribal members enrolled in 2- or 4-year academic programs at accredited institutions.
Eligible Tribal members with at least ¼ Native blood may receive full-time student support for up to 5 years toward a bachelor’s degree. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA. Deadlines are December 15, May 15, and August 15.

Childcare Assistance Program
Our childcare program provides financial support to help tribal families access quality childcare services.
Childcare Assistance
Eligible Tribal member children must be 4 weeks to 12 years old. Parents or guardians must meet the 20-hour weekly activity requirement.

We provide temporary financial assistance to help eligible tribal members meet basic needs.
Must be Alaska Native or American Indian, enrolled in a Federally Recognized Tribe or have a CDIB, and live within the Native Village of Barrow service area.
