SUMMARY OR PURPOSE
The Tribal Court Clerk (TCC) is responsible for corresponding with Tribal Court Judges and following up on Orders, Motions, and Judgements involving Indian Child Welfare Act matters, Adoptions, and all other matters or cases handled by the Court. The TCC ensures the organization of office files, supplies, and processes; helps to maintain consistency in the overall flow of court operations.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

  1. Serves as Receptionist in the Tribal Court department. Schedules meetings and hearings. Answers phones, greets incoming clients and community members. Receives, logs and distributes all mail, correspondence and complaints.

  2. Maintains court records. Handles case files and documents and enters them into Ritetrack, including sensitive and confidential information. Monitors and initiates court actions for non-compliance with Tribal Codes and due process.

  3. Administers Court hearings; takes and transcribes notes from hearings.

  4. Prepares invoices, check requests, and purchase requests for the Tribal Court department.

  5. Corresponds with Social Services, Court Judges, and other departments/entities as needed.

  6. Performs administrative tasks in the tribal court system.

  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School diploma/certificate, or equivalent background

  2. A minimum of two (2) years of administrative/secretarial experience or a combination of relevant work experience required; at least one (1) year accounting experience preferred

  3. Knowledge of office equipment, basic MS software, and word processing; communication and typing skills

  4. Dependability in completing assignments in an efficient and timely manner

  5. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  6. Knowledge and/or ability to speak and translate the Inupiat language preferred.

  7. Valid Alaska Driver’s License
